The IANJ formally denounces any form of political violence. Disagreements of a political nature should always be resolved through civil means such as the constitutionally exercised right to vote and public debate. Under no circumstances is the assassination of any human being ever an acceptable recourse. This was a regrettable and reprehensible act.
We pray that the person responsible will be held accountable, but that they will also find their way to a change of heart and behavior. We pray for those affected by the loss of life and for those injured – may they all recover fully and soon.
Finally we would like to encourage everyone to take a step back from their political stances, regardless of what side you find yourself on, and remember that those we disagree with are still human beings, we are all children of God, and even if we disagree, we should recognize in one another the sanctity of life and strive for peace.
